'Proudly Ugandan' campaign kicks off
The second 'Proudly Ugandan, buy Ugandan' campaign, kicks off this week. The campaign aims at promoting Ugandan-made products and will start with an exhibition. "We are using the campaign to sensitise Ugandans on the need to support and buy locally-made goods," said Gabriel Hatega, the Private Sector Foundation of Uganda (PSFU) executive director.

"Our products are of high quality and Ugandans should appreciate them." The promotion under the theme "Promoting the value of Ugandan products and services on the East African Market," runs from November 4-6 at the UMA Show Grounds Main Exhibition Hall in Lugogo.

"The exhibition will enable 3,000 manufacturers, service providers, exporters and importers to get information on the quality of Ugandan products and services. "It will also provide an additional platform to 200 providers of trade facilitation services to showcase their services to the private sector," Hatega said.

He explained that the campaign targets manufacturers and services providers, whose 60% or more of their production costs are spent in Uganda. Hatega said the 'Proudly Uganda' logo had been certified by the standards watchdog.

He added that locally-made products would now be sold with the standards agency logo alongside the 'Proudly Ugandan' logo. after UNBS certification. Some of the firms that have so far registered included Tilda, Roofings , BIDCO, Capital Outdoor Advertising, Nile Breweries, Shoprite Discount stores, Cable Corporation and Multiple Industries.
